| How safe are gel burners? |
| Our gel burners are completely safe when treated with
the respect that all naked flames deserve and when used in accordance with
the instructions supplied. All of our gelburners have been designed with
safety as a priority. Spills of Firegel can represent a hazard on some designs
we have seen but our gel burners feature a Safety Cup to catch spills of
Firegel and reduce heat transference to the outer surfaces of the gelburner.
In this way it becomes extremely difficult for unnoticed, accidental spills
of Firegel to penetrate the inner cavity of the gelburner where it might
vaporise and pose a risk. You are unlikely to find this very important safety
design on lesser gelburners - in which case, our advice is - do not buy
them. In addition, our Firegel is tested to the highest standards of the EU & our refill bottles employ childproof caps and the
gel is coloured to prevent confusion with other liquids. For further safety
information please read our online version of our safety
instructions - these will tell you more about gelburner positioning
and other safety considerations. |

| What is Firegel? |
| Firegel is a mixture of clean burning alcohols - Ethanol and Propanol. Gelling agents and flame brighteners are added to the alcohol mixture to thicken the alcohol and make the flame burn with a brighter yellow flame. |

| Where can I buy replacement
gel? |
| Firegel is becoming more widely available in garden
centres and DIY shops - but for now geographical coverage is quite patchy.
This should not concern you because we can continue ship you Firegel from
direct to your door. Simply buy
online at www.gelburners.co.uk (use the link on the left). In our opinion,
the Firegel we sell outperforms other Firegels in terms of flame brightness
/ safety features and cost (amazingly, some green gels we have come across
sell for £5 per 350g Tin! or nearly £15 per Litre!). If you find a local
retailer interested in stocking our products, ask them to contact us and
we will be able to arrange a local supply for you. |

| How hot does the gelburner get? |
| Our gelburners are designed to allow heat to convect away from the body of the gelburner. Although the sides of the gelburner and the base of the unit will get warm, they will remain safe to touch. However, the gel reservoirs and the top of the gelburner will get very hot and these areas should not be touched until the burner has cooled for several minutes. Until you are familiar with your gelburner in operation, we suggest that you exercise a greater degree of caution when touching or moving the unit after it has gone out. |

| How large are the flames and
can I vary their size? |
| The size of the flame is detemined predominantly by the size of the gel reservoir being used and by the prevailing conditions (ie. breezy or still air). 0.5L Tins of Firegel burn with a flame of approx 8 inches high. Breezy conditions generally reduce flame height. |

| How large are the gel burners? |
| The dimensions of each of our gelburners are shown in
the descriptions against each product. |

| Where can I use gel burners? |
|
Gelburners can be used either indoors or in the garden.
Indoors - Although
our gelburners are completely safe to use indoors, care should be taken
to ensure that the burners are placed on a stable, solid surface where
they are unlikely to receive any major knocks from visitors for example.
They should be placed out of the reach of children and pets and away from
flammable materials (eg. curtains / sofas etc.). Bear in mind that a strong
draft will fan the flames from side to side - so a greater exclusion area
may be necessary.
Outdoors - Although gelburners will burn successfully
in breezy conditions, the flame may not burn as high or as efficiently.
We recommend that the burner is placed in a more sheltered location where
the flame can reach its full height.

| Will the burner set off my smoke
alarm if used indoors? |
| The gel that we supply burns with no smoke or odour. Therefore, using
your gelburner indoors will not set off your smoke alarm. |

| How do I light the burner? |
To light the gelburner merely apply a naked flame to the surface of the
gel in the reservoir. An initial small blue flame (sometimes difficult to
see immediately) will spread across whole surface of the gel and begin to
turn yellow within a few seconds. The flames will reach their maximum
height after about 2 minutes when the reservoir has warmed up.
Because it is necessary to reach into the reservoir to light the burner
(particularly if the reservoir is only half full), we recommend that you
use a taper or long match for this purpose.
Do not refil or light a reservoir immediately after use - allow to cool
for several minutes before relighting.
|
| How do I extinguish the
burner? |
| To extinguish the burner, place the snuffer supplied over the reservoir
- the flames will be starved of oxygen and will go out within a couple
of seconds. Allow the reservoir and gel to cool before relighting - warm
gel vapours in the reservoir need time to cool and either condense or
disperse before relighting.

| When can I relight a warm
burner? |
| Do not refil or light a reservoir immediately after use - allow to cool for several minutes before relighting - warm gel vapours in the reservoir need time to cool and either condense or disperse before relighting. |
| (back to top) |
| How much Firegel will I use? |
The rate at which the gel burns is determined predominantly by the size
of the gel reservoir being used and by the prevailing conditions (ie.
breezy or still air).
In still conditions, our reservoirs will typically
burn 1 litre of Firegel in approx 2.75 - 3 hours. A 0.5L Tin of Firegel
will generally last for approx 1 Hour 40 Minutes. Breezy conditions will
cause the Firegel to be burned quicker.

| Will the burner make my ceiling
black if used indoors? |
| The gel that we supply burns with no smoke or odour. Therefore, using
your gelburner indoors will not generate the black smoke marks normally
associated with the vast majority of candles. |
